Cinematic and Journalistic Stuff I Learned in 2015

Hollywood is very much not dead.

People covering Reboot Age Hollywood get a pass on keeping up with Golden Age TV.

Golden Age TV sucks up too much movie time.

Women are the new bad guys.

Women are the new good guys.

Classy, long-married couples aren't necessarily complacent, nor are they necessarily faithful.

Quentin Tarantino gives the best interviews of any director currently living and working.

Peter Bogdanovich has lived a fascinating and charmed life.

Mainstream media really wants Hollywood to be more diverse.

The Film Twitter patriarchy is, nevertheless, real.

Margot Robbie is in.

Adam Sandler is out.

In hindsight, Schindler's List was actually kind of terrible.

For giving us Mark Rylance in Bridge of Spies, Spielberg is forgiven.

West Coast media, Best Coast media.

If you don't receive the occasional threatening email from a corporate PR lackey, you aren't doing your job.

In journalism and criticism, "writers block" is code for "hasn't done the requisite research yet" or "doesn't have a decent point."

No one wants to read the story written by the writer that didn't lose sleep, and her mind, a little bit, over it first. Not even that writer.

Journalists, Hollywood loves you, too.

  1. Granted I am not the most objective of observers, but I like how this list also tells a story.
